Shopping Centers

March 18-19, 2015
BATON ROUGE – LSU and the Stephenson National Center for Security Research and Training, or SNCSRT, joined with the International Council of Shopping Centers, or ICSC, for the third consecutive year to host the annual ICSC Security Leadership Summit in New York City March 18-19.

Highlights of the event included a presentation by Assistant Secretary Caitlin Durkovich with the Office of Infrastructure Protection at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, titled “Enhancing Shopping Center Security through Public and Private Sector Partnerships,” during which she reviewed programs DHS is developing and currently have in place that private companies, such as shopping centers and malls, can utilize.

Dan Ryan with General Growth Properties also joined the discussion and facilitated an open forum where participants were able to ask questions and discuss major issues and problems. The audience was composed of more than 50 executive and upper-management staff members from shopping center and mall ownership, retailers, developers and security providers.

The ICSC and SNCSRT have a longstanding partnership and work together to enhance security in retail environments. In addition to the ICSC Security Leadership Summit, ICSC and SNCSRT also host the Shopping Center Security Terrorism Awareness Training Program, an online course offered to security personnel.
